Generate letters, memos and pleadings from a matter
Keep document templates with merge fields, then turn one into a PDF on the matter in a few clicks.
Start from the starter templates
Go to Settings, then Document templates, and select Add starter templates. LawMOR adds an engagement letter, a client intake letter, a flat-fee agreement, a representation letter to opposing counsel, a closing letter and an internal memo. They are plain wording, not legal advice: read and edit each one before you use it.
Write or edit a template
Select a template, or New template. Choose the Kind: letters and memos print on the firm's letterhead; a pleading gets a court caption with the court and case number; an engagement letter can also be sent for signature. Give it a short Description so the team knows when to use it, and a file name for generated documents (merge fields work there too).
Use merge fields
Open Merge fields under the text box. Select a field to copy it, then paste it into the text, for example {{ client_first_name }}, {{ matter_number }}, {{ flat_fee }} or {{ adverse_parties }}. Values come from the matter, its client, the responsible attorney and the firm settings. A field with no value prints nothing. You can also write {% if flat_fee %}…{% endif %} and loop over the parties. Select Save template; a broken tag is rejected with a message naming it.
Generate from the matter
Open the matter, select the Documents tab and then Generate from template. Choose the template; for a pleading, enter the Court and Case number. Select Preview to read the filled-in text, then Generate PDF.
Find and share the document
The PDF appears at the top of the matter's documents, marked New, with the kind Generated. Open it, share it with the client in the portal, add a new version after you edit it, or send an engagement letter for signature from the Signatures tab.
